Estimated capacity

0 loads, pattern . Calculated with a 0.8 power factor and a 20% reserve above peak load, plus 10% derating for continuous operation.
Peak load
– kVA
This is an early estimate that assumes every load starts at once. If motors start in stages, choose Staggered in the load list; you may need less capacity. Our team can review your load list before you decide. This is an early estimate that assumes loads are switched on one at a time, so the surge counts only one unit of . Make sure the start sequence is actually controlled, for example by a timer or sequencing panel. If several motors can start together, choose All at once. Our team can review your load list before you decide.
Capacity Breakdown
Power with all equipment running normally, in kVA.
Extra power as motors and compressors start turning.
Room above peak load so the generator does not run at its limit.

Calculator Questions
How is the capacity calculated?
Each item’s running power is multiplied by its starting factor and added up to give the peak load. That is divided by a 0.8 power factor to get kVA, and a 20% reserve is added. For continuous operation, the result is divided again by 0.9.
Can I buy a generator based on this result?
Treat it as an early estimate. By default the calculator assumes every load starts at once (All at once). If your motors are switched on one at a time, choose Staggered in the load list: only the single largest item’s starting surge is counted, so the result is smaller. Send us your load list and our team will review it before preparing a quotation.
What is the difference between Standby, Prime, and Continuous?
Standby is backup for when the main supply fails. Prime is a main power source with varying loads. Continuous is 24-hour operation at full load. Standby recommendations use each model’s standby rating, while Prime and Continuous use its prime rating.
Which load type should I choose?
Choose 1× for loads without motors such as lights and computers, 2× for small motors, 3× for AC units and pumps, 4.5× for compressors and motors, and 7× for heavy industrial machinery. If unsure, ask our team and share the equipment’s nameplate data.
Is my load list stored?
No. The list exists only while this page is open and is lost when the page is reloaded or left. It reaches us only if you send it through the Request a Quote form.
